Richard Huish College
Taunton, Somerset
Futures for Somerset worked with Richard Huish College to deliver a replacement Arts Block. The single storey block was replaced with a two storey Arts and General Teaching block to help reduce overcrowding. The project follows a successful Condition Improvement Fund bid to the Education Funding Agency by Futures for Somerset on behalf of the College. This project relates to the highest priority dilapidation elements with the College’s strategic maintenance plan.
The project consisted of the demolition of 395m2 of poor condition Art studio accommodation and re-development of same site area to deliver new 790m2 fit-for-purpose 2 storey Art and General Teaching Accommodation block. Halsall Construction completed the building works four weeks early and on budget. The £2m value project was completed at the end of 2017.
The demolition of the existing Art block and development of a larger, two storey teaching block gives opportunity to increase capacity (thus reducing overcrowding).
